A BRIEF HISTORY OF INDOOR SKYDIVING
The Indoor Skydiving community has grown notably since its origins in the early 1980’s. In those times a few aircraft-propeller-driven machines around the world provided the opportunity for eager skydivers to improve their skills in the wind. A new chapter for Indoor Skydiving was written in 1998 with the opening of Skyventure Orlando. Due to the introduction of an enclosed 12-foot diameter flight chamber with smooth wall-to-wall airflow flyers could experience a more accurate representation of freefall.
Initially wind tunnel training focused on belly-flying but rapidly grew into advancing more bodyflight techniques. Fast forward to the recent years, the sport has seen amazing growth! With official FAI recognition, the creation of new disciplines and an ever expanding community the future of Indoor Skydiving looks bright!
THE SPORT OF INDOOR SKYDIVING
The invention of modern wind tunnels has given skydivers a consistent and practical way to develop and hone skills that usually require jumping from a plane. Additionally, the increase in availability of wind tunnels has created a whole new genre of sport. Certainly bodyflight is one of the most exciting and fastest growing sports in the world.
